Greatest Contribution to Tech
Techrepublic is running a poll asto who has contributed the most to the technology landscape – Bill Gates or Steve Jobs (http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/hiner/?p=7442&tag=nl.e019)
My vote, with a heavy heart, went to Bill Gates. The question asked was about the greatest contribution to the landscape. Yes, the iPod, iPhone and iPad are revolutionary devices that have had game changing effects on the market, but beyond the consumer segment, Apple’s reach has been limited. While Microsoft has taken time to build platforms (NT being the greatest invention from that stable) Microsoft has contributed a greater amount to the landscape. Case to point – MS Office- used most extensively to document and present- now thats difficult to top.
Yes, there are flaws with technologies, surely a supermarket of them with Microsoft, but you must give it to them for trying to reach out.
Windows, MsSql, Active Directory, Silverlight etc, the list is long but my point exactly- Has Steve Jobs or Bill Gates made the greater contribution to tech? – my vote – Bill Gates.
